Adolescents and Young Adults:
Tena believes that treating substance abuse and or addiction is a family issue. When a young person is using substances, the entire family is affected. It is important that a young person has a safe confidential place to explore the choices they are making and to decide whether or not those choices are working. Exploring each individual’s strengths and building on those strengths helps to empower the young person and build self esteem. Not all young people embrace the possibility of change especially when substance abuse has become a great part of their life. Tena’s approach in utilizing Animal Assisted Therapy has allowed many clients to feel more at ease as they address intimate and difficult issues in their life. Her sense of humor and direct approach allows young people to easily relate to her.
Parents:
Tena has presented many parent trainings and workshops to help parents understand how to set healthy boundaries with adolescents.
